What’s the History of Easter Eggs?

The Easter Bunny’s exact origins are shrouded in mystery. According to one interpretation, the rabbit’s symbolism dates back to pagan times, notably the festival of Eostre, a goddess of fertility whose animal image was a bunny. Rabbits, who are noted for their vigorous breeding, have long been associated with fertility.

But when did the Easter Bunny start bringing eggs to children in the United States?

According to some reports, the Easter rabbit first arrived in America in the 1700s with German immigrants who settled in Pennsylvania and brought their egg-laying hare known as “Osterhase” or “Oschter Haws.” Their youngsters built nests for this creature to lay its colorful eggs in. The tradition eventually extended across the United States, and the fabled rabbit’s Easter morning delivery grew to include chocolate and other sorts of candy and gifts, as well as elaborate baskets in place of nests. Furthermore, youngsters frequently left carrots out for the rabbit if he became hungry from all of his hopping.

In every culture, bunnies aren’t the animal that is usually linked with Easter. Some associate the occasion with different creatures, such as foxes or cuckoo birds.
