Standing a full inch tall and three-quarters of an inch wide, the captain has real presence — taller than he is broad, so he reads as upright and commanding rather than squashed. Brushwork picks out the hat, the patch, and the coat in saturated color over the fired clay body, and no two captains come out with quite the same expression, which is half the fun.
The 2-3mm hole strings easily onto cord, wire, or elastic, which makes these as workable for kids' party crafts as for serious nautical designs.
