The articulating mechanism is the engineering challenge here: both plates are lost-wax cast separately, then hand-assembled so the jaw opens wide enough to see the interior. Individual teeth are rendered on both plates, and at 3.9 grams the extra silver reflects the additional metal required for a functional hinge. The charm measures 1/2" x 1/2". During hand-finishing each piece is tested for smooth movement before the sterling silver jump ring is attached.
